Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that is the result of a hormonal imbalance and the secreting of excess amounts of oils from the glands in our bodies which clog the pores. But so much more than that, it is a social disease that keeps people in their homes and makes them afraid to be in social situations. It’s frustrating and causes extreme anxiety in those who have it.
One reason for this is oily skin. As stated above, acne is the result of excess amounts of oils in the body. Bacteria enters these pores and spreads through out the skin, cause the dreaded breakouts every sufferer is familiar with.
But alas, there is hope. There are so many everyday tips you can follow that will dramatically reduce your breakouts. They don’t involve spending hundreds of dollars in over-the-counter skin treatments products and they are just as effective in preventing acne.
The first tip to follow is keep your hands off your face. The more you touch your face and other effected areas of your skin, the more dirt and bacteria seep into your pores and the frequency of your breakouts will increase. Also, make sure when you do get zits and pimples, don’t try to pop them yourself, you’re just asking for them to get infected.
If you have long hair, especially long oily hair, try to keep it out of your face as the oil from your hair will transfer to your skin and worsen your condition. If you have a problem with oily hair there are many hair care products that are made specifically to combat that. You can also get it cut shorter so it doesn’t rest on your face.
Develop a strict cleansing regimen for your face. Pick a cleanser that doesn’t contain harmful chemicals and excess oils that you can apply everyday, at least two times, when you wake up and before you go to bed. It’s important to ensure that the pores on your face aren’t becoming clogged with oils from the outside world.
If you are going the conventional way and using over-the-counter acne treatment products, be patient. Don’t get discouraged if one doesn’t work right away. Often times it takes a couple weeks for any results at all to show. And it may get worse before it gets better, so try not to get too frustrated. Just keep fighting the good fight and stay positive.
