Through all the modern advances that medicine holds today, there is finally a way to not only counter-act the ravaging effects of acne, but quite possibly for many people completely clear it and all of its effects, maybe not forever, but certainly there are ways to manage it. A cure for acne has not yet been found, but there are lots of ways of minimizing its effects. As far as over-the-counter medications go, benzoyl peroxide is one of the most commonly used ones to treat acne. It has had a great success rate among acne sufferers and is fairly inexpensive. But as with any acne treatment or medication, you must be patient and let it take its natural course, according to your own unique body.
One of the first ways to beat out your acne that we’ll examine is oral antibiotics, that is pills that you ingest through your mouth. There are many kinds of these, including Accutane, which does not require a prescription. Some different and effective anti-biotics out there are Amoxicillin, Azithromycin (Zithromax), Cephalosporins, Clindamycin, Erythromyci, and Tetracyclines. This is a very safe way to go about taking care of acne as well as a mildly inexpensive way. Some of the pills can get pricey, but it’s a good way to treat acne, very effective as well.
Topical anti-biotic medications is another way to treat acne. These are the more external, non-invasive ways to go about treating your acne. They come in the form of lotions, scrubs, lotions, and ointments. You can buy them from any drug or grocery store and they are generally inexpensive, at least less expensive than prescribed anti-biotic pills. This should be the method you use first before going to antibiotics in pill form. Two common examples of these types of antibiotics are Clindamycin and Erythromycin.
Exfoliation is one very good way to treat acne. What is basically is, is a method that removed a very thin layer of skin, helping to unclog the pores and make them less oily. Exfoliation treatments can come in the form of mud masks, oatmeal scrubs, or toner/pads. All of them can be bought over-the-counter and have very mild to no adverse side-effects. There is also another form of exfoliation known as chemical exfoliation. With this type of exfoliation, powerful chemicals take off a thin layer of skin. There are some side-effects that come with it such as burnt or irritated skin around the effected areas.
For women that are going through adult acne, there are some hormone treatments that are still considered experimental. Oral contraceptives such as the pill have been proven to up the estrogen and decrease testosterone therefore defeating acne in its tracks. This type of treatments works off of the assumption that some acne cases are indeed hormone related.
The point is that while there is not a cure for acne, it is extremely manageable. Just because you have severe acne doesn’t mean it has to be that way. All of the above mentioned ways are all effective, but not necessarily for everyone. Stay strong in your struggle against acne to find which method is right for you.
