Acne Tips For Dry Skin

People with dry skin have many of the same issues sensitive skinned people do when treating acne.  There is desperation to find a product, which treats acne but does not leave the rest of the face looking a wreck.  With so many recommendations out there what is the person with dry skin supposed to do about his or her acne?

As is the case with sensitive skin, most state Benzoyl Peroxide should be the one ingredient to avoid.  Although this ingredient is great for normal or oily skin, it is too strong for dry or sensitive skinned people.  Most acne products do have Benzoyl Peroxide so one must be vigilant when checking the labels.

Products with Glycolic and Salicylic Acids are usually offered as alternatives to Benzoyl Peroxide.  Most claim these products, in 2% formulations, do just as well as Benzoyl Peroxide to treat acne.  As the ingredients have a lesser potency to Benzoyl Peroxide, less damage is done to the surrounding skin.

While others state one with dry skin should take pills.  This suggestion is also offered to people with sensitive skin.  The main over the counter, or OTC, versions are Acnezine and Vilantae.

But then some state acne should be treated first and the dry skin second.  If a product does not leave unwanted rashes or bumps and the person is satisfied with the results, he or she should continue to use the product then treat the surrounding skin with a good moisturizer.  Eucerin has a product called Everyday Protection, which not only offers a light all-day face lotion, but also has SPF 30.  As most know the acne product alone does not make the skin dry, but combining with the elements causes the harshest reactions.  As the sun beats down on the face, even when cloudy, the acne-drying treatment starts to dry out the surrounding skin.  If one is wearing a good moisturizer with SPF protection, he or she will help combat the sun’s effects.

As always one should ask a doctor or pharmacist before trying the OTC pills.  It would also be a good idea to request a second opinion on topical treatments if he or she is worried about the marks appearing on the face.
