Are Pore Strips a Good Way to Treat Acne?

If you have ever suffered from acne than you may have tried the pore strips, such as Biore’ or other brands.  Although it can be quite fascinating and oddly entertaining to see all of the crap come off of your face and stick to the strip, it has to leave one wondering, is this actually something that will help treat and prevent acne from occurring in the long run, or is it just a quick fix?  To answer this question, it is important to first understand how pore strips work.

How does a pore strip work?

A pore strip such as Biore’ is a very dramatic and quick way to clean the pores.  It works by adhering tightly to the skin.  In fact its strong adhesive sticks so tight to the skin that when you pull it off it also pulls out the oily, crud and gunk that is clogging your pores.

Are pore strips effective?

The question of whether or not using pore strips can be an effective approach in the treatment of acne has been a long debate among acne sufferers that may never end.  However one thing is for sure, when used correctly, pore strips can be a powerful weapon against fighting acne.  However one thing to keep in mind is that using them too often cause cause skin irritation and further outbreaks to occur.  This is why it’s a good idea to use pore strips no more than a total of three times a week.  When used any more than that you are damaging your skin and increasing your risk of infection.  Although pore strips do work quite well, they are definitely no substitute for a good cleansing regimen used on a regular basis and when used too often many will suffer negative side effects that can sometimes be an even bigger pain than the acne itself was to begin with.

Concerns

Although pore strips have been found to work well in fighting acne, they are not as easy to find as they once were.  One main reason for this being that people do not pay enough attention to the warnings printed on the side of the box.  For instance, pore strips should never be used over any area other than the nose and should also not be used over inflamed, swollen, sunburned, or dry skin.  If the strip is too painful, it should be removed immediately.  Remove it by wetting it and then removing it carefully.

Most people who will use pore strips will find after pulling them off that they did in fact have some oil sitting at the top of their oil glands, and that by using these strips it will remove blackheads, gunk, oil and some skin, which can be helpful.  However in the long run Pore Strips, such as Biore’ or other types do not completely eliminate the problem and in many cases the ingredients found on the strip can and usually do eventually irritate the skin which can potentially lead to further outbreaks, sometimes becoming more severe.
