Vitamin B5 Megadose For Acne – Is It Safe & Does It Work?

Vitamin B5 has been known to cure acne and many are questioning whether it is a safe way to treat acne or not.  To know for sure we first need to answer a few questions.  For starters what is Vitamin B5 and how does it help cure acne?

How does vitamin B5 cure acne?

Vitamin B5 helps reduce the release of oils in the body.  In mega doses it has been suggested that it can clear and prevent future cases of acne.  Whether it is true or not has been a bit of an ongoing dispute however.  There is not enough evidence on the research topic and its possible long term effects on the body to come to a clear conclusion.  Even though there are not any clear informed conclusions on whether or not Vitamin B5 megadose is really a safe product to use, it doesn’t stop people from trying it anyway.  There are many who have used it to treat their acne and claim that it has worked.  However there are also many who have said that it’s brought on a number of nasty side effects and is a scam.

Does Vitamin B5 megadose make you breakout more? And if so, why?

After many reviews and research done on Vitamin B5 megadose many have claimed that after taking the megadose their skin seemed to breakout more.  This however cannot really determine whether or not the Vitamin B5 megadose is working properly or not and many people stop using the megadose before they are ever really able to find out for themselves what the truth is.  When taking Vitamin B5 megadose many people have a bad breakout afterwards and stop using the product, thinking to themselves “What a crock of crap, this isn’t working”. However it could very well be a possibility that the outbreak you are suffering from is in fact not a newly formed outbreak but rather the end of one that was not yet apparent because it hadn’t broken the layer of skin yet.

A common mistake that many people make when trying to cure acne is giving up on treatments after only using them for a short time because they expect to see results overnight.  Your acne did not occur overnight, even though at times it may seem like it did.  People need to learn to be patient and give the treatments they are trying time.  Acne does not disappear immediately. These things take time.

Taking a further look at the pros and cons to decide if B% is right or safe for you to try.

It is not uncommon for a person to begin losing their hair when using vitamins as a supplement.  The cause of hair loss is actually due to toxicity and experts believe that this is a result of a binding ingredient that is used in the supplement and not labeled on the bottle.  There is no evidence to prove that B5 is the actual cause of hair loss, however there is also no evidence to prove that it is not.  Due to this toxicity, when a person takes Vitamin B5 in higher doses their body becomes poisoned either by the binding ingredient used in the supplement or because of the B5 itself, which causes Telogen Effuvium.  Telogen Effuvium is a reactive process that can be caused by medications as well as metabolic or hormonal stress.  It is characterized by hair loss.

Recovery for hair loss in this case is spontaneous and occurs within 6 months.  Most people will recover within 3-5 months however there have been a few cases where people do not recover and it results in permanent hair loss.  Even after stopping the treatment of B5 megadose.  If you are suffering from hair loss, it has to recover on its own naturally.  Supplementing with Biotin or a B-Complex will not protect against hair loss as it is not a vitamin deficiency in the B5 or binding ingredient that is causing the hair loss to occur.  The best ways to try and help your body recover naturally and for hair to grow back is to do lots of cardio exercising daily so that your body sweats, and drink plenty of water.

There have been many reviews, research, etc. done that suggest taking B5 can be safe however many recommend not megadosing (1 gram per day).  Taking a megadose can lead to many complications that many have decided did not outweigh the pros to the treatment.  In most cases we see that the megadose is actually causing more harm than it is good.  If you are willing to put up with constant dry skin, bladder infections, hair loss, a menstrual cycle that can stop for a matter of months or just feeling sick all the time, then Vitamin B5 may be something you want to try.  However in most cases, after reading this you might think it’d be best to try a different route.

Some people who have taken Vitamin B5 have decided that it was a waste of their money, time and good health.  There have been some cases where people have gotten diarrhea from the Vitamin that led to hemorrhoids.

Summary

Overall, the use of Vitamin B5 megadose for the treatment and prevention in acne has worked well for some and horribly for others.  Some people swear that it cured their acne and that they had little to no side effects.  Others claim that it made their lives miserable and it wasn’t worth the pain or the money spent.  Whether the vitamin is something you are willing to try is ultimately up to you and what you are willing to possibly sacrifice to cure your acne and in either case the results may or may not be what you were expecting.

There are many other treatment options and topical medicines, etc. that exist if you decide that Vitamin B5 megadose is just not for you.  Making an appointment with your dermatologist is always a wise decision as they can usually diagnose you and suggest what they think might be best for curing and preventing acne.
