Sensitive skin creates many challenges. Many, who suffer, feel they must check every ingredient and test every product before it touches any part of their bodies. When a product does seem to be the right fit, it may turn out to be an irritant after only a couple uses. But when it comes to acne, most with sensitive skin would rather have rashes or the like than to have a blemish embarrassing them in public. So what should people with sensitive skin do?
Most over the counter, or OTC, acne product will irritate sensitive skin. Many claim it is the Benzoyl Peroxide, which causes dryness or rashes on skin, and many healthcare workers will agree with such statements. The main problem with many OTC treatments, especially those with Benzoyl Peroxide, is they are too quick to dry out the entire face not just the blemish.
Many state the best OTC products are those that have Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid (the latter being the main ingredient to aspirins). The assumption is that these two acids (in 2% formulations) have enough abilities to treat the acne without destroying the sensitive skin.
Others claim OTC creams, gels, ointments, or lotions will never aid sensitive skin without leaving irritating bumps or rashes. The only way to treat is through oral medications. Many recommend Acnezine and Vilantae, which are OTC pills.
The only other options are to utilize a doctor, who either specializes in holistic medicines or dermatology. Either will be able to give a medicine with the potential to rid acne from sensitive skinned people.
If one is to try the OTC topical treatments, it is recommended to only treat the skin twice daily and to make sure to use products sparingly. As for the OTC pills, one should check with a doctor or pharmacist to make sure there are no side effects with current medications and or with conditions he or she may have.
